Ways to get ahead

-Have healthy ,happy, and stable parents and a positive / fun upbringing

-Have high enough income, but is not exceedingly privileged or snobby. Is “everyman/ woman”

-Resembles popular media / TV characters (i.e. Grey from Grey’s Anatomy)

-Don’t take self and others too seriously

-Good social life and was popular in school

-Participated in sports in high school or college

-Volunteer or do church activities

-Stable personality

-Clear communicator

-Good looks and sharp dresser

-Friendly and likeable

-Generous with physical touch. Reaches out to people physically and in conversation. History of positive attachment.

-Cares about others and communicates that their opinions matter. Meks people feel good and useful.

-Somewhat vulnerable and also accessible. Open to group opinions and advice. Reflects group’s opinions, but thinks just one step ahead of others and guides them to that opinion.

-Gossips and talks about others – opinion leader. Sometimes is critical and has lighthearted, sarcastic, mocking wit and incisive opinions.

-Has confidence and belief in own opinions.

-Enjoys life and therefore is role model that people can look up to. Likes to have fun. Is calm and appears in control. Popular, and entrenched member of group or clique.

-Knowledge of and love for common and popular culture, especially television and movies

-Member of region/ area’s dominant and powerful majority – shares traits with prevailing race, culture, gender, income level

-Smart, quick, well-read, interesting within boundaries (i.e. has read biography of popular rock musican)

-Efficient and “gets things done”
